Training is an important part of East Quay and we have five GP trainers. We also promote staff training where it is relevant to their roles and where it will improve services to patients.
Communication is important to us at East Quay. One of the most important elements of the communication in the practice is that the partners and registrars all meet for coffee and to look at the post from 8.50am to 9.10am each day. It is an ideal time to chat about day to day happenings in the practice or catch someone to discuss a problem or patient and this is why we have specifically mentioned them in the registrar timetable.
We do not consider ourselves an academic practice however and see ourselves as a friendly group practising ordinary family medicine, so please do not feel that a highly academic background is required to be a registrar here.
The practice has been paperless since 1994 - at least from the point of view of consulting and all GP clinical records. We use the EMIS clinical system and have a well developed practice Intranet, which is now seamlessly integrated with the NHS net, allowing access to the Internet, Medline, and Cochrane Collection etc. from the desktop. Both GP registrars have the same equipment in their personal consulting rooms.
